How do I send form responses to another app?
Tribl can send each new response to another app as soon as it arrives, for example an automation tool like Zapier or Make, or your own server. This is called a webhook and it's free.
Connect an app
- In your other app, create a webhook (it may be called a "catch hook" or "custom webhook") and copy the web address it gives you.
- On Tribl, open your form in the editor, then open Settings.
- Paste the address under Send responses to another app. Use the full https:// address your app gives you.
- Select Save changes.
- Open the form again. You'll now see a Signing secret and a Send a test button. Select Send a test to check that your app receives it.
Under the address, Tribl shows whether the last delivery worked. To stop sending responses, delete the address and save.
What Tribl sends
Each response is sent once, as JSON, with:
event:form.responsefor a real response, orform.testfor a testform: the form'sidandtitleresponse: itsid, submittedAt, theanswers(each with thequestion, itstype, thevalueand a readabletext), a simplefieldslist of question and answer pairs, andagreedToUpdates
Check that a request came from Tribl
Every request has a Tribl-Signature header that looks like t=1700000000,v1=5257a8….
To check it, join the t value, a full stop, and the raw request body, then calculate an HMAC-SHA256 of that text using your signing secret. If the result matches v1, the request came from Tribl. This works the same way as Stripe's webhook signatures.
Good to know
- The address must use https and be reachable from the internet. Addresses with a different port, or that redirect, won't work.
- Your app has 5 seconds to answer. Tribl doesn't retry a delivery that fails, but the response is always saved on Tribl, so you can still find it on your responses page.
- If you change the address, your signing secret stays the same.
- Only send responses to apps you trust. Tribl sends everything the fan wrote to the address you add.
